I SLEEP, BUT MY HEART KEEPS VIGIL
I was sleeping, but my heart kept vigil; I heard my lover knocking:
"Open to me, my sister, my beloved, my dove, my perfect one!" (Song of Songs 5:2)
When we seek to love God and live in his presence, there awakens in us a conscience that is always alert: it is the heart that keeps vigil, the soul that continues to desire it.
On this fourth day, I will let the Lord knock on the door of my heart and call me.
I will remain vigilant. I will listen. I will attend.
I let him in, I receive his love, I rest in his presence, I am pacified.
The Lord has come because I have waited for him. He remains in me and I in him.
