- We adore you, Oh Christ, ...
I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE; WHOEVER BELIEVES IN ME, EVEN IF HE DIES, WILL LIVE. AND EVERYONE WHO LIVES AND BELIEVES IN ME WILL NEVER DIE. (John 11: 25-26).
After being sentenced to death by the chiefs of the Jews, the imperial authority of Rome hands him over to be executed. Since he was a Jew, he had to face the ignominious death on the cross. Pilate could have saved him because he himself declared that he saw no fault in him. However, fearful of losing his position and power, he gives in to the Jews and turns him over. So Jesus takes up the cross and carries it to Mount Calvary. All the weight of sins goes on it. A weight impossible to bear. But love wins and our Jesus rises, rises between tears and deep suffering.
My Jesus, what were you carrying so heavily? Being able to understand that your physical pain, your exhaustion, are nothing compared to the spiritual weight of our sins was a load that crushed you. Your Divine Soul feels it and you push yourself to the limit because its weight is immeasurable, only the Father knows it. Help us, oh Jesus, to become aware of this pain of yours when we commit sins: You carried them on the cross!
Oh Father, God of all mercy, have mercy on our human weakness, make us aware of the seriousness of our sins whose high price your Son paid. Make us capable of living in your fidelity so that we may be witnesses of Christ in the world and want to collaborate with him in his saving work through love given and offered. Help us understand that we are called to take up this cause! Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
